 Anglican Parish of Gisborne

Worship

Our three churches form the Anglican Parish of Gisborne, as part of the Diocese of Melbourne within the Anglican Church of Australia, an independent province of the worldwide Anglican Communion of churches in communion with the Archbishop of Canterbury, and part of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.

Worship and prayer are at the centre of our community life and across our three churches we offer a variety of times and styles of worship that hold to the liberal catholic tradition of the Anglican Church.

Sacrament and symbol are important to us, as is order within our worship.  However, we affirm the importance of being open to new and contemporary styles of worship as we strive to meet the worshipping needs of a diverse congregation.  We treat the scriptures seriously and they form the basis for preaching within worship.

Worship is inclusive and its leadership is shared between the laity and clergy of the Parish.  All baptized persons irrespective of age are welcome to join us at the table of our Lord, to receive the sacrament of Holy Communion and participate as fully as possible.

Music is valued and important to our worship.  We have a small choir and the Eucharist is sung each Sunday at our 10am Eucharist and at other major festivals.

Children of all ages are welcome and we offer a worship and learning programme that strives to involve the children and also meet their particular needs for nurture in both faith and worship. [click here for further details of our Children’s ministry].
