Holy Baptism

Holy Baptism is the sacrament by which a person is joined to Christ, incorporated into his Body the Church, and marked as belonging to God for ever. Through water and the Holy Spirit, we are washed from sin, reborn into new life, and set upon the path of faith, hope, and love. Baptism is not merely a symbol or a family custom; it is a gracious act of God, in which he claims us as his own and begins in us the work of salvation.

In the Anglican tradition, Baptism is the gateway to the Sacramental life of the Church. It is ordinarily administered in the context of public worship, because Baptism brings us into a community, not only into a private faith. The whole congregation shares in the joy and responsibility of welcoming the newly baptised, promising to uphold them in prayer, teaching, and example.

At our parish, Baptisms normally take place during our Sunday services: at 9.00 am in Gisborne, and at 11.00 am in Macedon. This allows the sacrament to be celebrated within the Church’s prayer, praise, and proclamation of the Gospel, as it has been from the earliest days of Christianity.

If you are considering Baptism for yourself or your child, or would like to learn more, we warmly invite you to complete the contact form below, we will be delighted to get in touch and walk with you through the next steps.
