Taizé Prayer is a distinctive style of meditative prayer developed by an ecumenical community of monks in rural France some 85 years ago. The worship uses periods of spoken prayer, reflection on the scriptures, silence and prayer through music and singing in a simple chant like way. The Taizé community, seeks to live out the Gospel ideals of reconciliation and community through prayer, work and the creation of places of reflection.
The founder, Brother Roger’s goal was to create what he called "a parable of community," where kindness of heart and simplicity would be at the center of daily living and an example of unity bridging religious, social and political divisions. The community is now worldwide and welcomes many young people who are searching for what God might be saying to them, but also welcomes everyone regardless of age, to come and sit for a while in the peace of God.
Our service will be about 40 minutes followed by some simple hospitality. You need to do nothing beforehand, simply bring yourself.
(NB: children are VERY welcome, acknowledging that there are periods of silence).
